His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan Bin Mo-
hammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Su-
preme Council, Ruler of Sharjah, and
President of the University of Sharjah
launched the advanced video conference
system at the women colleges building.
The system connects the University of
Sharjah with its branches in Khor Fakkan
and Kalba.
The system encompasses four connect-
ed classrooms by the Internet, as well
as men and women student halls at the
University’s headquarters in Sharjah and
a hall in its branch in Khor Fakkan and
another in its branch in Kalba. Two
or more rooms can be connected
together at the same time so that lec-
tures and any interactive or academic
activity from any one room can be trans-
mitted, watched and interacted with by
the other three rooms. Cutting-edge digi-
tal audio-visual technology is used.
Each seat in the room has an audio sen-
sor. When people sitting on the chairs
start speaking, the camera is automati-
cally directed at them for interaction. The
system is characterized by world class
equipment, varied multimedia and high-
tech ability for fulfilling optimum interac-
tion. Records of events that took place in
the rooms are maintained and archived
on the system.
Lectures and events can be seen real-
time from anywhere in the world. The
events can be followed and posted on
social media sites.
Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohammad Bin
Rashid Al Maktoum, Dubai Crown Prince
and Chairman of Dubai Executive Council,
chaired an Executive Council meeting at
the Emirates Towers. During the meeting,
Sheikh Hamdan instructed all government
bodies and authorities in Dubai to follow in
the experimental footsteps of Dubai Police
in issuing official documents electronically
and through its smart applications. Each
document will have a unique reference
number and a pin code so that concerned
entities can verify the document’s authen-
ticity and accuracy through Dubai Police
electronic channels. He said that such
steps are in line with the government’s
strategy to make Dubai the smartest city
in the world.
The project has significantly contributed
in providing highly efficient services by
Dubai Police. The process of issuing a
criminal record certificate used to take
three business days in the past, and re-
quired the customer to physically go to the
service centre, wait for the time of offering
the service then return again to the centre
three business days later to get the cer-
tificate. Now, with the smart app, custom-
ers can apply online or via mobile app and
receive the certificate through their email
within ten minutes.
The app also enabled a number of docu-
ments that can be requested via smart
channels such as good conduct certifi-
cate, reporting a bad cheque, reporting a
lost passport, requesting a clearance let-
ter for traffic fines, reports of lost items and
requesting permit to visit detainees.
